SHIELD
The Red (Marine Corps Scarlet) signifies valiance, boldness, courage, hardiness, liberty, passion, patriotism and zeal. The National Flag Blue chevron reversed in chief symbolizes constancy, devotion, justice, loyalty, thinking and truth. The Gold saltire dovetailed signifies the four virtues of honor, nobleness, goodwill, and vigor. The saltier dovetail is a reinforcing sign of strength and seamless coordination. The wheel recalls the Marine Corps historic traditions and is taken in part from the specialized insignia worn by Marines assigned to the Quartermaster General of the Marine Corps prior to the Second World War, with the thirteen spokes and stars representing the early founding of our nation.
